Wisconsin women's hockey: 3 recruits named to ALL-USA high school girls ice hockey team

Baylee Wellhausen was named player of the year and is joined by Taylar Cianfarano and Maddie Rolfes on the first team.

Incoming freshmen Baylee Wellhausen, Taylar Cianfarano and Maddie Rolfes were named to the inaugural USA Today American Family Insurance ALL-USA high school girls ice hockey team on Sunday.

Wellhausen's 79 points in 42 games at Shattuck-St. Mary's are cited for the honor. Cianfarano had 103 points in 43 games at the National Sports Academy in Lake Placid.

All three were members of Team USA that took silver in the recent IIHF World Juniors U-18 tournament in Hungary. Cianfarano was the leading goal-scorer in that tournament with six, and second in overall in points, with eight. Wellhausen had a goal and two assists over the tournament while Rolfes added three assists.

Cianfarano won a directorate award as one of the best players of the tournament.

An interesting additional note on the USA Today list: a second-team mention was given to Nicolet High School freshman Nicole Unsworth. Unsworth plays on the University School of Milwaukee co-op team.

Unsworth will be a player to watch as she continues as a high school prospect. She broke the school season record for points and scored the most points in Wisconsin prep hockey this season –- boys or girls. She had 63 goals and 44 assists in just 27 games. As a freshman. You can be certain Unsworth is on Badger coach Mark Johnson's radar and I'll be making a point to go see her play here in Milwaukee the next chance I get.
