The Wisconsin women's hockey team is playing this weekend in Vail, Colo. -- a city with hockey roots, but not a lot to show in the way of college hockey.
It turns out Wisconsin coach Mark Johnson was instrumental in setting up this weekend of games as a showcase for the women's game in an area rich in hockey history. It brings the women's game further west and should work to help grow the game. In addition, Wisconsin will hold a girls hockey clinic Sunday morning followed by an autograph session.

A women's game between Bemidji State and Ohio State last Friday set an NCAA record for penalty minutes. It came on the heels of the exhibition game in mid-October between the USA and Canada Women's National Team's that featured a fight.
SI.com was already running a series of articles about fighting's place in hockey, so this was a natural segue into discussing where women's hockey falls within this debate using USA-Canada as the framework.

This column from the New England Hockey Journal wishes it was the finesse and beauty of the women's game that garnered national attention, not brawling.

The Four Nations Tournament didn't go as planned for Team USA, but Hilary Knight wrote up some of her experiences and shared a bunch of pictures from the week on ESPNW.

If you weren't already reading them, do yourself a favor and catch up on Madison Packer's blog posts at UWBadgers.com. She's got a good post this week on the team's arrival in Vail and preparations for the weekend's games.
