Two Wisconsin men's hockey recruits from Western Canada captured playoff championships on Tuesday night. Adam Rockwood and the Coquitlam Express won the British Columbia Hockey League's Fred Page Cup, while Cameron Hughes and the Spruce Grove Saints captured the Alberta Junior Hockey League's Gas Drive Cup.
Rockwood played hero for the Express on Tuesday as his short-handed goal with under five minutes left in the third period clinched a four-game sweep for Coquitlam over the Vernon Vipers.
A 5'10, 175-pound pass-first forward, Rockwood finished the playoffs with four goals and 14 assists for 18 points in 19 postseason games. Combined with his regular-season totals, Rockwood currently stands with 17 goals and 75 assists for 92 points in 72 games.
Rockwood -- who also considered Boston College, Boston University, Harvard and New Hampshire before committing to Wisconsin -- will join the Badgers in the fall.

Hughes also played a big role in capturing a championship for Spruce Grove, earning a primary assist on the game-winning goal for the Saints that completed a four-game sweep over the Drumheller Dragons.
A 17-year-old center, Hughes registered one goal and 17 assists for 18 points in 19 AJHL playoff games. Added to his regular-season line, Hughes has now recorded 22 goals and 52 assists for 74 points in 70 games.
Hughes -- who also visited Penn State, Michigan State and Ohio State -- committed to Wisconsin less than a week after the Badgers secured a verbal from Rockwood. With the loss of Nic Kerdiles to professional hockey, it's expected that Hughes will also be a member of UW's 2014 recruiting class.
