Wisconsin hockey recruiting: Forward prospect Adam Rockwood visiting

With holes still to be filled in the 2014 recruiting class, the Badgers are bringing in Coquitlam forward Adam Rockwood for a visit.

Still needing to fill 4-6 spots at the forward position for next year's roster, the Wisconsin coaching staff is bringing in a skilled playmaker for a visit.

Adam Rockwood from the Coquitlam Express of the British Columbia Hockey League will be in Madison early next week. With games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday this weekend, a Monday visit was the best that could be arranged.

Rockwood currently ranks fifth in the BCHL scoring with eight goals and a league-leading 48 assists in 43 games. He was also named the Express' rookie of the year last season despite missing time with a broken jaw.

"His vision and playmaking ability are very above average," Coquitlam Express coach Barry Wolff said in an interview earlier this season. "We're very lucky to have him in the lineup."

Obviously a pass-first type of player with the numbers he puts up, Rockwood is considered one of the elite playmakers in the BCHL this season.

"I'd say he's one of the best setup guys in the league," teammate Jace Hennig said.

While not identical players by any means, it appears from the outside as if Rockwood could help pick up some of the slack being left behind when senior Mark Zengerle exhausts his eligibility after the season.

"My shot isn't bad, I just have more confidence in my passing," Rockwood said in the interview with the Vancouver television station earlier this year. "That's just how I've looked at the game of hockey, and that's how I've played my whole life."

The Badgers are also waiting on the decision of Spruce Grove (AJHL) forward Cameron Hughes. The Edmonton native visited Madison last month and is also considering offers from a few other Big Ten institutions.

One player who likely won't end up with the Badgers is Waterloo (USHL) forward Tyler Sheehy. While Wisconsin has shown interest in the past, the lack of an offer at this stage seems like the writing is on the wall. Also, multiple sources have indicated he'll likely end up at either Denver or Minnesota.

If Sheehy goes to Denver it would be for next fall, while Minnesota's offer would likely be for 2015 with the possibility of acceleration due to unexpected early departures.
