Report: Wisconsin nearing commitment from 2024 4-star DL recruit

Could the Badgers see a late addition to their 2024 class?

Luke Fickell and the Wisconsin Badgers have put together a pretty impressive 2024 recruiting class in his first complete cycle as the head coach — but they might not be done adding to it just yet.

The Badgers recently hosted 2024 four-star, top 125-ranked defensive lineman Ernest Willor Jr. on an official visit to Madison in early December. As it stands, he currently holds scholarship offers from Ohio State, Penn State, Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame, and many others.

With National Signing Day just around the corner, the Badgers currently have 20 players who have given verbal commitments. However, recent developments indicate Wisconsin might be the preferred landing spot for the highly touted defensive lineman, which could push that number to 21.

According to a recent report from 247Sports’ recruiting insiders Steve Wiltfong and Brian Dohn — the University of Wisconsin appears to be the frontrunner in securing Willor’s commitment.

What It Would Mean for the Badgers

This news is significant, considering the Badgers have historically struggled to attract highly rated defensive line recruits.

Since 2016, Wisconsin has landed just two four-star DLs on the recruiting trail: Garrett Rand, who had a solid career at UW, and Isaac Hamm, who never wound up playing for the Badgers.

Defensive line coach Greg Scruggs already has a verbal commitment from Dillan Johnson, a 2024 prospect, who will push that number to three when he officially signs on the dotted line in a few weeks.

Should he land a second in Ernest Willor Jr., that would be a massive shot in the arm for a Wisconsin football team that desperately needs an influx of talent at the position. The industry-generated composite rankings currently have Willor rated as the No. 114 prospect in the 2024 recruiting class and the No. 17 ranked defensive lineman in the country.

Not only would Willor be the highest-rated commit in the 2024 recruiting cycle for the Wisconsin football team, but he would also push the class ranking from No. 26 — all the way to No. 21. Not too shabby.
