Badgers extend first offer to DL in the transfer portal

The Badgers are getting active in the transfer portal once again.

The Wisconsin Badgers have offered Penn transfer defensive lineman Joey Slackman, marking their first offer to a player in the transfer portal.

While the transfer portal only opens on December 4th, Slackman entered as a mid-year graduate transfer, meaning teams can begin to offer scholarships already.

Slackman has seen significant interest, as he has earned 17 offers within the first 24 hours since entering the portal, including from the likes of Colorado, Arizona, Miami, Pittsburgh, Duke, Louisville, and North Carolina, among others.

The Badgers were in the hunt for defensive linemen last offseason, both via the portal and in their 2023 recruiting class, but weren’t able to get the number of bodies they desired.

Now, with players potentially leaving the program, it appears they’re looking to bolster their depth at the position.

Over two years at Penn, Slackman recorded 97 tackles and eight sacks as a 6’4, 300-pound defensive lineman.
