Wisconsin football recruiting: ATH Jake Ferguson commits to Badgers

The Badgers get themselves a legacy recruit, and so much more.

Student Sports

In the time since I started watching recruiting, one of the things I notice is the pace of how a recruiting class goes. It goes in fits and starts, and runs can lead into fallow periods. Thursday put the Wisconsin Badgers on a little bit of a run, as they landed the Madison (Memorial), Wis., athlete Jake Ferguson before adding Austin (Lake Travis), Texas, wide receiver Cody Green.

Ferguson, a 6'5, 205-pound, three-star athlete, looks like a future tight end, though he does provide the athleticism and soft hands to hang on the outside as a wide receiver. As his Hudl profile shows, he does have the aggressiveness to play linebacker should the situation dictate some kind of a position switch. Of course, Ferguson will likely lock up the most intriguing background for any commit in the class of 2017, with his brother, Joe, making the depth chart as a walk-on safety and his grandfather being athletic director Barry Alvarez.

Familial lineage aside, Ferguson also received offers from Iowa, Iowa State, Nebraska and Northern Illinois, plus interest from Notre Dame and Oklahoma. He is commitment No. 6 for UW's class of 2017 and No. 5 from inside Wisconsin.
