With Gary Andersen maintaining his recruiting connections out west, Wisconsin now finds itself in on prospects who might otherwise have their eyes set on the west. Micah Kapoi was a Hawaii commit, but all it took was a visit to Madison to get him to flip. After his Nov. 30 trip to Wisconsin, Kapoi said he felt at home despite the 4,000-mile difference. The presence of defensive line coach Chad Kauha'aha'a, a fellow Hawaii native, also helped. Naturally, according to 247 Sports, the benefits of earning a top-notch education and UW's offensive line tradition also both helped.

"I had more of an opportunity at Wisconsin because of their business school and they're known for their offensive lineman [sic]. I just wanted to be a part of that tradition."

Verbally committed Dec. 1, 2013

Kapoi visited Madison Nov. 30 and flipped to the Badgers the following day. He initially committed to Hawaii June 26 of that year, and previously generated interest from Weber State, Kansas and Nevada. Offensive line coach T.J. Woods received an assist on his recruitment. Kapoi is the first offensive line recruit from outside the state of Wisconsin to switch his verbal commitment to the Badgers.
