This was always going to be an interesting visitors weekend recruiting-wise. Between Gary Jennings, Jordan Griffin and Issac James, the expectations were always that the Wisconsin Badgers were going to end up adding a commit to the class of 2015. Turns out, there just might be a chance for the Badgers to make a major splash.
247Sports is reporting that top-50 athlete and Michigan commit Brian Cole (Saginaw Heritage) will be in Madison this weekend to take an official visit to Wisconsin. Cole had made previous plans for an unofficial offseason visit, only to have them fall through on multiple occasions. A commitment to Michigan soon followed. Of course, then Michigan became a roiling cesspool of controversy and started losing to Rutgers.
At this point, I'm assuming the question you have for me is: do the Badgers have a chance? And that depends. If you're looking at a guy who's going to be a lock to commit on Sunday? It would be surprising. Michigan State and Tennessee would also potentially receive visits.
But if we're talking about a player the Badgers could offer early playing time at whatever position he wants, be it running back, wide receiver or in the secondary? The Badgers could be a good fit. Brian Cole is a crown-jewel prospect with a reported 40-time at 4.33, a 6'2, 190-pound frame and he has that sort of Melvin Gordon-ish streak to him as a threat to take it to the house with even the slightest amount of space. It's better than a puncher's chance right now, and if Cole wants to be a running back, this feels like the perfect day to get the visit.
In short, it's good news that Cole's coming. It would be great news if the Badgers got the flip.
