Wisconsin recruiting: 4-star ILB Christian Folau decommits from Stanford

With Folau opening his recruitment, the Badgers become the favorites for his services.

One of the prospects the Wisconsin Badgers have been pursuing aggressively since Gary Andersen came to Madison is four-star Salt Lake City (East) inside linebacker and Stanford commit Christian Folau. When we last left Folau's recruitment, it was simple: Wisconsin was his favorite as a safety school, and Stanford was his No. 1 choice. But since Stanford is, you know, Stanford, the situation was fluid.

It turns out, Folau decommitted from Stanford on Wednesday.

It remains to be seen why exactly Folau decommitted. After all, there was a recent commitment of inside linebacker Mustafa Branch to Stanford.

As I said in the header, Wisconsin's been the school that's been recruiting Folau the heaviest even while he was committed to Stanford, and justifiably so. Folau is a 247Sports composite four-star prospect and one of the better attacking linebackers in the class of 2015.

Folau will be taking a two-year Mormon mission after he graduates from East this season, so if the Badgers end up landing him, he will count for the class of 2017. As it stands now, look for Wisconsin to go up against Cal, Washington and Vanderbilt for him. But the Badgers will come in as the favorites.
