I was on vacation in the land of Russell Wilson last week, so we'll cover recruiting news from the past two weeks in this edition of WISCruiting Weekly.
While running back/outside linebacker Osa Masina of Salt Lake City was widely thought to be headed to Utah, his mother told Evan Flood of Badger247 that her son's recruitment has actually been "wide open" for quite some time. The four-star recruit and his mother visited Madison over the weekend for his unofficial visit, which he really seemed to enjoy:
Just finished unofficial with Wisconsin, really feel at home here. #GoBadgers pic.twitter.com/EspIpT5ruD

Part of Masina's comfort in Madison was probably due to his the familiarity with his recruiter, UW defensive line coach Chad Kauha'aha'a. Masina knew Kauha'aha'a from his days in Utah, and with former Utah State head coach Gary Andersen now leading the Badgers and already nabbing two top recruits from Utah in Ula Tolutau and Austin Kafentzis, you have to like the direction of Masina's recruitment.
Also, just over a week ago three-star JUCO linebacker D'Vonta Derricott reaffirmed Wisconsin as his top school:
"They're still my number one," he said. "They're probably like a 10. A lot of schools are following and aren't close to them. They're a winning program in the Big Ten. I think they've strengthened their lead."
Narrowing their lists
These recruits have recently shortened the lists of their top schools:
DE Kurt Holuba (Oradell, NJ): Wisconsin, Duke, Florida State, Stanford
WR Jalen Brown (Phoenix, AZ): Wisconsin, Oregon, Ohio State, Oregon State, Arizona, Vanderbilt and Michigan State
WR Emanuel Beal (Powder Springs, GA): Kansas State, Missouri, Kentucky, Wisconsin and Central Florida*
