One of the major questions following the departure of Bret Bielema was how Gary Andersen would succeed as a recruiter. Regardless of how you may view Bielema, it's hard to argue he did a fairly solid job as a recruiter at UW. However, Andersen has recently shown off his coaching staff's potential, snatching up a few more verbal commitments this past week. The most recent commits include a giant offensive guard from Ohio and a power running back from Maryland.
Who says this guy can't recruit the country?
The recent additions of linebacker Dominic Cizauskas, offensive lineman Michael Deiter and running back Taiwan Deal bumped Wisconsin up to No. 33 in 247Sports' national recruiting rankings. Although there haven't been any "splashy" four- or five-star commits under Andersen's watch, he's still done pretty well considering this is his first offseason at a major FBS football program.
Update on Craig Evans
The Craig Evans' storyline is far from over, but here's the latest scoop on the Sun Prairie, Wis., defensive tackle after he visited Madison on Monday. Evans is apparently swaying back in favor of Wisconsin after he enjoyed a visit out to Michigan State and said he could envision himself playing there. According to Evan Flood of Badger247, Evans claims he is 80 percent sure he'll commit to Wisconsin. So again, still consider Evans a soft commit, as he continues to receive interest from other schools -- even Alabama offered him a scholarship -- but the latest news from Evans comes as good news for UW fans.
A "Perfect" Visit
Three-star tight end Ryan Izzo also visited Madison on Monday, and it couldn't have gone any better. Following his visit, Izzo told Flood:
"Comparing them to all the East coast schools I've seen and Iowa the other day, I think Wisconsin is very impressive, everything about it. The visit just went perfect. It was a great overall visit. I can't think of anything that went wrong."
Izzo -- who has offers from the likes of USC, Florida State and Iowa -- guaranteed Wisconsin would make the cut for his top five schools.
Another QB to Watch
From Saturday to next Wednesday, the The Elite 11 Finals will be held in Portland, Ore. Rosters were just announced today, and SB Nation Recruiting will be there in full force. The player to watch for Wisconsin is Hollywood (University School), Fla., quarterback Sean White. The pro-style QB has yet to be offered by the Badgers, though he already has a visit to Madison scheduled for July 8. For what it's worth, 247's Crystal Ball feature predicts White to the Badgers, as of June 19.
A brief scouting report from Bud Elliot of SB Nation Recruiting:
The 6'1, 200-pound White is one of the more underrated quarterbacks in the country. A consensus three-star, he has been steadily adding BCS offers, showing more arm strength than many thought he had, and staying accurate and consistent. White won Quarterback MVP honors at the Miami NFTC for the second year in a row. A Class 3A All-State pick last year while playing at Chaminade, he passed for 3,430 yards with 40 TDs and only six interceptions while rushing for six more scores. Also a standout at the Atlanta and Columbus Elite 11 Regionals, he has offers from a dozen schools including Boston College, Cincinnati, Hawaii, Houston, Syracuse, Wake Forest and West Virginia.
