Wisconsin basketball recruiting: Andy van Vliet commits to Wisconsin Badgers

Belgium, Wis., has a new favorite son.

After all that with Diamond Stone, there was a question of how the Wisconsin Badgers would fill the last remaining scholarship for the class of 2015. There are certain needs for the season to come, but this was already a class that was four deep and could do well with potentially banking a scholarship.

Monday, the Badgers found their answer as Belgian power forward Andy van Vliet committed to Wisconsin.

Van Vliet entered the picture late, but he's definitely a prospect that fits what the Badgers need. After all, the scouting report in a sentence is a post player who has a quality jumper from distance. It's a stock in trade for what the Badgers do. That said, he is also listed at 188 pounds on his 247Sports profile. He's got the frame to add weight, but it goes without saying that playing time will grow with how Van Vliet grows.

Van Vliet had a good offer list for when he entered the picture, too, garnering offers from Oklahoma State, St. Mary's and Washington State before making the commitment to Wisconsin. He becomes the fifth member of the class of 2015, joining Alex IllikainenBrevin PritzlKhalil Iverson and Charlie Thomas.
