Over the Holidays, Wisconsin Badgers volleyball fans got the gift of good news from two key front row players.
Seniors Devyn Robinson and CC Crawford announced they would return for a fifth season of eligibility in 2024 last week.
Crawford, who was a former Kansas Jayhawk before joining the Badgers for the 2022 season, has become a crucial defensive piece at middle blocker for UW. Crawford was second on the team in blocks per set with 1.35 on the season — good enough to be third best in the conference. Crawford also had 19 aces on the season and created some good serving runs for Wisconsin in crucial moments.
Devyn Robinson’s return is a big boost for Wisconsin’s attack. The Ankeny, Iowa-native had 2.43 kills per set on the season while swinging for .310 hitting percentage as she earned Second Team All-Big Ten plaudits this the season. Robinson, who missed three matches on the season due to injury, will bring back a lot of experience and leadership for Wisconsin.
The good news means that Wisconsin won’t need to re-tool its attack so much heading into next season. Along with Crawford and Robinson, the Badgers will have Anna Smrek, Carter Booth and National Player of the Year Sarah Franklin returning in 2024.
It seems the attack is sorted, but it will be interested to see if the Badgers make any more moves in the transfer portal to address some needs in the back row after other confirmed departures earlier this month. Of course, Wisconsin does bring in a recruiting class of six new players in 2024.
