Four Wisconsin Badgers were honored by the AVCA Wednesday by being named to the All-American Teams.

Outside hitter Sarah Franklin was named a First Team All-American, becoming just the fifth Badger to be named to the First Team.

Franklin has been outstanding this season, winning both the Big Ten Player of the Year honors and the 2023 AVCA Northeast Regional Player of the Year. She is 28th nationally in the country in kills per set with 4.19 while hitting .305 percent on the season. Additionally, Franklin has been a true six-rotation player, getting a lot of passing opportunities from serve receive and coming up with 1.94 digs per set. The Lake-Worth native was named AVCA National Player of the Week on Nov. 28 to go along with three Big Ten Player of the Week awards this year.

Opposite hitter Anna Smrek was named to the Second Team All-American, the first time she’s been named an All-American. Smrek is second for Wisconsin with .265 kills per set and is hitting .396 on the season. She’s also adding 1.16 blocks per set.

Middle blocker Carter Booth was also named as an All-American for the Third Team, the first time Booth earned All-American plaudits in her career. The 6-foot-7 middle blocker ranked third nationally with 1.60 blocks per set and also in hitting percentage at .444. She also led the Big Ten in both those statistics and also added 1.80 blocks per set. The fact that somehow she was only included on the Third Team is ridiculous to me when she was the best middle blocker in the Big Ten, a conference known for its quality of middles.

Senior Devyn Robinson was an honorable mention All-American, the third time she has made the list in her career. Robinson finished the season with 2.48 kills per set and .92 blocks per set and earned Second Team All-Big Ten honors as well.

Those four players were key cogs for Wisconsin reaching its fourth Final Four appearance in five seasons. UW will take on Texas in the second semifinal match, which is scheduled to take place at 8:30 p.m. Central depending on when the first match between Nebraska and Pitt finishes. Both matches will be live on ESPN.
