One day after beating the Air Force Falcons 3-0, the Wisconsin Badgers produced another shutout, defeating the Northeastern Huskies 3-0 to win the Kwik Trip Holiday Face-Off, courtesy of a hat trick from sophomore forward Simon Tassy.
With the win, the No. 6 Badgers improved to 16-4 on the season, extending their current winning streak to seven games.
Tassy scored a goal in each frame on Friday, leading to three scores for Wisconsin, with Mathieu De St. Phalle, Daniel Laatsch, Anthony Kehrer, and Owen Lindmark all recording assists on the night.
The Badgers did have a near goal in the second period from Cruz Lucius, but the score was waived off after Carson Bantle was ruled for goalie interference while attempting to screen for his teammate.
Additionally, goalie Kyle McClellan recorded his second consecutive shutout with 28 saves, which was his fifth of the season, a nation-high.
McClellan’s shutout has now lowered Wisconsin’s scoring defense to just 1.55 goals per contest, the best mark in the nation.
Wisconsin next faces off against Notre Dame on the road next weekend as they continue the second half of their season. The first match on Friday is set for 6 P.M. CT and the second on Saturday is set for 4 P.M. CT.
