Wisconsin men's hockey: Joel Rumpel signs with NHL's San Jose Sharks

According to a tweet from his agency, Uptown Sports, Wisconsin senior goaltender Joel Rumpel has signed an NHL contract with the San Jose Sharks.

Rumpel had a fantastic four-year career with the Badgers, finishing with a career save percentage of .918 and goals-against average of 2.51.

A native of Swift Current, Saskatchewan, Rumpel ranks second all-time on Wisconsin's career shutouts list with 10. Rumpel's save percentage ranks third all-time on the UW list and his goals-against average sixth. His 53 career victories rank fifth.

Rumpel was also a 2015 nominee for the Hockey Humanitarian Award for his extensive service to the community.

The contract with the Sharks is for one year, starting with the 2015-16 season. Rumpel will finish the current season on an ATO (amatuer tryout offer), and will report to the Worcester Sharks of the AHL.
