According to a press release from the University, former Badger and 2010 Hobey Baker Memorial Award-winner Blake Geoffrion will host the second annual Blake Geoffrion Hockey Classic on Friday, June 26 at LaBahn Arena.
The event will raise money to benefit the UW Health Burn Center. Wisconsin men's hockey season ticket holders can purchase tickets starting on May 22, while the general public will have an opportunity to secure a seat starting May 25.
Last year's inaugural event was a smashing success, with nearly $55,000 raised to support the UW Health Burn Center.
The 2014 rosters featured a "who's who" of Wisconsin hockey. In addition to Geoffrion, NHL stars like Brian Elliott, Brendan Smith, Craig Smith, Derek Stepan, Ryan Suter, Tom Gilbert and Adam Burish put on the cardinal and white once again for the event.
"Hockey players are a tight-knit group, so I wasn't surprised that so many volunteered to play in the game. We're always willing to help each other out," said Geoffrion. "The fact that their participation will raise money for the Burn Center is icing on the cake."
According to the release, Badger men's hockey coach Mike Eaves said the hockey program's relationship with the Burn Center began when he and an assistant coach visited patients in the unit, and he was pleased with how the first game went last year.
"The most outstanding thing last year was the level of fun the players had," Wisconsin head coach Mike Eaves remarked. "The guys had different antics each time a goal was scored. You saw goalie Brian Elliott skate down the ice and assist on a goal. Adam Burish had a t-shirt on under his hockey gear razzing Blake Geoffrion, but I wondered what was going on when he started taking his clothes off."
The exhibition game featuring former Badger men's hockey players will be played June 26 at 6:30 p.m. at LaBahn Arena. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for youth and seniors (ages 2-18 & 55+) and all proceeds benefit the UW Health Burn Center.
Hockey Classic tickets are available with the purchase of Wisconsin Hockey Season tickets starting Friday, May 22 at 8:30 a.m. Those individuals will be able to request up to four complimentary Blake Geoffrion Hockey Classic postgame Meet-and-Greet passes. Tickets to the Hockey Classic will then be available to the general public starting on Monday May 25.
