McCabe played three seasons for the Badgers before signing with the Sabres at the conclusion of last year. McCabe finished his career at UW with 14 goals and 44 assists for 58 points in 100 career games. The Badgers won two conference tournament championships with McCabe playing a significant role in both. McCabe was also named first-team All-Big Ten as a junior.
A native of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, McCabe got his first taste of NHL action last spring, playing seven games for Buffalo to close out the 2013-14 season after Wisconsin was eliminated from the NCAA tournament. He registered one assist and 15 penalty minutes during his limited stint last season.
McCabe currently leads American Hockey League rookie defensemen with 25 points, including 21 assists, in 49 games. The former Eau Claire Memorial high school blueliner has 10 points in his previous 11 games.
It's expected that McCabe will be in the lineup when Buffalo hosts the Nashville Predators tonight at 5:00 p.m. CT. He will be the 20th former Badger to play in the NHL this season.
