It's finally here. The Wisconsin men's hockey team is set to drop the puck for the 2014-15 season. The Badgers will open things up by playing Alaska tonight at the Kendall Hockey Classic. On Saturday they will play against Anchorage at 10:00 p.m. CT. Neither game is on TV, but you can buy a webstream from the WCHA for $12 per game.
More Hockey
The major surprise in the lineup tonight is Landon Peterson starting between the pipes for the Badgers. With the success of Joel Rumpel, it could be assumed he'd see the majority of the starts this season. The Wisconsin State Journal is reporting the decision to start Peterson had to do with Rumpel having to take three tests while on the trip to Alaska, including one at 6:45 a.m. this morning.
Other than that, the lineup looks close to what we expected coming into fall camp. Six true freshmen will be making their Wisconsin debuts tonight. In addition to those six, redshirt freshmen Tim Davison and Corbin McGuire will also be suiting up for the Badgers for the first time. McGuire has been committed to UW since March, 2009, and Davison since September, 2010. Nice to see these kids finally get an opportunity to put on that Wisconsin sweater.
