USA Hockey announced on Monday the names of 48 players that have been invited to the U.S. Men's National Team Orientation Camp from Aug. 26-27 at Kettler Capitals IcePlex in Arlington, Va. Six former Badgers have been listed, including two players -- Ryan Suter and Joe Pavelski -- that represented the U.S. at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver.
The camp is designed to assist in preparation for the 2014 Olympic Winter Games, set for Feb. 7-23, 2014, in Sochi, Russia.
The former Badgers named to the camp roster include Derek Stepan (New York Rangers), Craig Smith (Nashville Predators), Jake Gardiner (Toronto Maple Leafs) and Ryan McDonagh (New York Rangers), in addition to the previously noted Suter (Minnesota Wild) and Pavelski (San Jose Sharks).
Additional Wisconsin-born players named to the U.S. camp include Montreal Canadiens forward Alex Galchenyuk (Milwaukee) and Toronto Maple Leafs forward Phil Kessel (Madison).
Former Badger Jim Johannson -- who is the assistant executive director of hockey operations for USA Hockey -- will have a hand in the final roster as one of the leaders within the Team USA management group.
