Brock Boeser named to U.S. Under-17 team for Five Nations tournament

Wisconsin recruit Brock Boeser has been chosen to represent his country after his performance at the USA Hockey Select 16 Festival

A great summer continues to get better for Wisconsin recruit Brock Boeser, who on Saturday was named to the U.S. Under-17 Select Team that will compete in the 2013 Under-17 Five Nations Tournament Aug. 14-18 in Trnava, Slovakia.

The 20 players on the U.S. roster were selected from the USA Hockey Boys’ Select 16 Player Development Camp, which took place from July 7-13 at the Northtown Center at Amherst in Williamsville, N.Y.

Boeser was one of the biggest stars at camp this year, finishing in a four-way tie for first place in points with 12 points (4 goals, 8 assists) in six games.

A Burnsville, Minn., native, Boeser committed to the Badgers in late May. Boeser chose Wisconsin over college hockey powerhouses Minnesota and Michigan.

As a sophomore forward for Burnsville high school last season, Boeser registered 12 goals and 34 points in just 19 games for the Blaze.

Boeser's older cousin, Dan, played at Wisconsin from 2000-04 and was a tri-captain his senior season. Dan Boeser's tenure included two seasons under current Badgers' head coach Mike Eaves, who took over the program before the 2002-03 season.

The 2013 Under-17 Five Nations Tournament will include teams from the Czech Republic, Germany, Slovakia, Switzerland and the United States.

Two Wisconsin natives were named to the U.S. roster for the tournament. Gophers' commit Tommy Novak, who hails from River Falls and plays at St. Thomas Academy, and uncommitted prospect Tarek Baker, who played last season for the Omaha U16 team, and calls Verona home, will also don the red, white and blue in Slovakia.

Green Bay Notre Dame Academy forward Sam McCormick was also one of the biggest standouts at Select 16's last week. The younger brother of Ohio State forward Max McCormick, Sam finished the tournament in a tie for first in goals (7) and points (12).
