The 28 year-old Dowell has seven points (four goals, three assists) and 29 penalty minutes in 26 games for the Aeros this season.
The 6-foot, 202-pound native of Eau Claire, Wisc., was signed by the Wild as a free agent July 4, 2012. Dowell is currently signed to a two-year contract, with the first year being two-way, and the second year one-way.
The Wild already have a Wisconsin feel, with former Badgers Ryan Suter, Dany Heatley and Tom Gilbert on the roster. Dowell will be the fourth Badger to skate for Minnesota this season.
Dowell has skated 154 NHL games with Chicago and Dallas, posting 33 points (11 goals, 22 assists) and 133 PIM. He received a ring when the Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup in 2010.
With his recall, Dowell becomes the 20th former Badger to be on an NHL roster this season. That number is tops amongst all NCAA programs, with the next highest being Michigan and Boston College, both with 18 alumni in the NHL.
Dowell played at Wisconsin from 2003-2007, registering 90 points in 159 games for the Badgers. Dowell was also a vital piece on the 2006 Wisconsin national championship team.
