Tyler Barnes named Big Ten first star, Joe Faust third star

There weren't many players in the country who played better down the stretch last season than Tyler Barnes, and the senior has carried that over into the 2013-14 campaign. With the Badgers trailing by two goals Friday night, the Burnsville, Minn., native put the team on his back to force overtime and an eventual tie vs. Lake Superior State at the Kohl Center.

Barnes added two assists in Saturday's victory, running his weekend total to two goals and four points. For his efforts, Barnes was named the Big Ten's first star of the week.

Barnes wasn't Wisconsin's only honoree this week, however, as defenseman Joe Faust was named the Big Ten's third star of the week. The senior from Bloomington, Minn., had four assists on the weekend -- including a career-high three on Saturday -- and was +5 vs. Lake State.

Faust came into his senior season with just four career assists, but was able to double that output last weekend alone.

Mark Zengerle nets NCAA's No. 3 goal of the week

During Saturday's 8-1 rout over Lake Superior State, center Mark Zengerle cashed in on his first goal of the season in highlight-reel fashion. Zengerle's goal was ranked as the No. 3 play of the week on NCAA.com. The senior from Rochester, N.Y., has six points in six games to start the season. Zengerle's 124 career points are the most for any player during the Mike Eaves coaching era.

Badgers stay at Nos. 12/13 in rankings

Despite a tie and an 8-1 win over No. 13/12 Lake Superior State last weekend, the Badgers didn't budge in either the USA Today/USA Hockey magazine or USCHO.com polls. Minnesota was the unanimous No. 1 in both. Fellow Big Ten conference member Michigan checked in at No. 2 in both, as well.

Wisconsin's next opponent after the bye, Miami, is ranked No. 7 in both polls.

Badgers growing Movember mustaches

Led by captain Frankie Simonelli, the Badgers are growing out mustaches this month in honor of the Movember movement. You can go here to donate to the cause. So far, the boys have raised $125 dollars, but I know Badgers fans can do a lot better than that.
