Wisconsin opens up Big Ten play this weekend against top-ranked Minnesota at Mariucci Arena in Minneapolis. The Badgers have had an interesting season so far with three bye weeks already to this point.
Last time they were on the ice, the Badgers split with then eighth-ranked Miami in Oxford. The RedHawks shutout the Badgers 2-0 on Friday, but Wisconsin was able to bounce back in the finale to earn a 3-2 win on the road.
After missing the trip to Boston and the Lake Superior State series with an injured ankle, goaltender Joel Rumpel made the trip with the team two weeks ago. Landon Peterson started on Friday, with Rumpel taking the reigns on Saturday. Both goaltenders played well in Oxford, with Peterson stopping 34 of 35 shots and Rumpel 32 of 34. Peterson will get the start tonight for Wisconsin, but don't be surprised to see Rumpel on Saturday.
Wisconsin is 8-6-3 all-time against No. 1 ranked teams during the Mike Eaves era, including a 3-2 record against Minnesota when they have held down the top spot.
One milestone to keep an eye on this weekend is Mark Zengerle's pursuit of 100 assists. The senior center currently sits at 98 for his career. If he reaches the 100 plateau, he would become the 14th Badger in the history of the program to reach that mark.
