Justin Schultz Headlines 17 Former Badgers On NHL Rosters

Former Wisconsin defenseman Justin Schultz is one of 17 former Badgers who will start the season in the NHL.

The NHL season FINALLY opened up on Saturday, and 17 former Badgers will be starting the season in the NHL. That group is highlighted by Justin Schultz, who will make his NHL debut with the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday vs the Vancouver Canucks.

Schultz is one of just five players who played NCAA hockey last season to make opening night rosters. Other players include Jaden Schwartz from Colorado College (St. Louis Blues), Reilly Smith from Miami (Dallas Stars), Jeremy Welsh from Union (Carolina Hurricanes), and Chris Kreider from Boston College (New York Rangers.)

Last season 22 former Wisconsin Badgers saw time in the NHL, and it's expected that the Badgers will get close to that mark once again this season with injuries and call-ups from the American Hockey League.
