2013 Big Ten/ACC Challenge: Wisconsin gets rematch with Virginia

The pairings for this year's Challenge were announced Wednesday, allowing the Badgers a chance to avenge last year's loss to the Cavaliers.

USA TODAY Sports

The news trickled throughout Twitter earlier Wednesday morning, but the official 2013 Big Ten/ACC Challenge schedule was finally announced this afternoon. Wisconsin plays at Virginia on Dec. 4, the second night of the annual competition between two of college basketball's premier conferences. The two teams met in Madison for last year's challenge, and Virginia left with a 60-54 win in a late-November non-conference game that sure had quite a Big Ten feel.

The pairing will be just Wisconsin and Virginia's second in the 15-year history of the Challenge. The Badgers fell to 6-8 in the tournament last year, though they have still won a game in three of the last five years. Only Illinois has more Challenge wins (7), and Wisconsin's .429 winning percentage ranks fifth behind Illinois (.500), Ohio State (.500) Purdue (.500) and Michigan State (.462). Those measly figures are largely a result of the ACC winning the first 10 Challenges, though the Big Ten is unbeaten in the last four -- last year's ended in a tie.

Virginia is 8-5 in the Challenge and 5-1 at home. The Cavaliers finished 2013 with a loss to Iowa in the NIT quarterfinals and closed the season with a 23-12 record.

TV television times and networks are yet to be announced, but here is the complete slate of games for the 2013 Challenge:

Tuesday, Dec. 3
  • Florida State at Minnesota
  • Illinois at Georgia Tech
  • Indiana at Syracuse
  • Michigan at Duke
