The Wisconsin Badgers got some important news on Wednesday, as left tackle Jack Nelson announced during interviews at bowl prep that he will return for the 2024 season, sharing his belief in Luke Fickell.

Nelson, a 6’7, 315-pound offensive lineman, earned every start at left tackle this season, marking his second consecutive year of starting at the position for the Badgers, and his third as a starter overall.

Nelson had also started as a redshirt freshman as a right guard before making the move to tackle.

It was an up-and-down year for Nelson, who primarily struggled with penalties, as the left tackle finished with 13 on the season, the most on the Badgers in 2023.

But, in a second year in Jack Bicknell’s system, Nelson will look to improve, and will likely start on an offensive line that will see at least two new starters, as center Tanor Bortolini and right guard Michael Furtney will not return to Wisconsin.

With Nelson returning, the focus now goes towards backup left tackle Nolan Rucci, who was a five-star recruit in the Class of 2021, but has yet to see any substantial action yet.
