The Badgers need significant help at defensive line

Defensive line may be the biggest position of need on the team in the transfer portal.

Two weeks have come and gone since the transfer portal officially opened, and the Wisconsin Badgers have seen action both ways, as several players have moved out of the program, while a number of transfers have joined the team as well.

Entering the transfer portal, the Badgers had some work to do, as their team finished the regular season with a 7-5 roster, with apparent struggles on both sides of the ball throughout the year.

But, where was the Badgers’ biggest need in the transfer portal?

Last week, prior to the action kicking off, we asked the question in our weekly poll, and the results may be different than anticipated, as 54 percent of fans chose defensive line as the team’s biggest need, via DraftKings Sportsbook.

Now, the Badgers, coincidentally, have added at the other two positions already, landing Miami Hurricanes graduate transfer Tyler Van Dyke at quarterback, as well as LSU Tigers true freshman Jackson McGohan at tight end.

But, defensive line seems like an area of need, at least to the Badgers, who have extended several offers out to different players at the position so far, with some having visited or currently visiting Wisconsin.

Defensive linemen in the portal are tough to find, as there’s a scarcity of available talent at the position, meaning one must pay heftily with NIL money to get the top-tier talent or look to find undeveloped players with potential instead.

The Badgers are mainly opting for the latter route, targeting redshirt freshmen to fill out their depth via the portal.

Can they secure a commitment or two soon?
