The Wisconsin Badgers desperately need reinforcements on the defensive line heading into 2024 and have their eyes set on making a few additions via the transfer portal.

Wednesday evening saw Luke Fickell and the Badgers coaching staff extend their latest scholarship offer to former Alabama defensive lineman Anquin Barnes Jr., who recently entered the portal.

The former four-star prospect in the 2021 recruiting class hails from Montgomery, Alabama, already racking up offers from Colorado, SMU, Memphis, Indiana, and Houston.

Standing at 6-foot-5 and 315 pounds, Barnes appeared in just two games across three seasons with the Crimson Tide, which both came as a redshirt sophomore against Middle Tennessee State and Chattanooga.

Although it was a small sample size, Barnes Jr. finished with a Pro Football Focus grade of 81.6 this past season and is looking for a situation where he can find extended playing time in his final two years of eligibility.

Wisconsin football expects to return contributors such as James Thompson Jr., Curt Neal, Ben Barten, Darian Varner, and Cade McDonald. The Badgers are also waiting for official word on whether or not Rodas Johnson will exercise his extra season of eligibility. Either way, they need several plug-and-play options that can help improve the front seven.
