The Badgers are getting their second commitment of the day with an FCS All-American.

The Wisconsin Badgers have secured a commitment from FCS All-American outside linebacker John Pius, he announced on Monday.

Pius, a three-year starter from William & Mary, recorded 9.5 sacks and 16 tackles for loss in 2022, following that effort up with nine more sacks in 2023.

A redshirt junior, Pius will have one year of eligibility remaining as a redshirt senior at Wisconsin.

On his official visit this weekend, Pius was most impressed by the “great place, great people, and great facilities, which prompted the commitment following the weekend.

In 2022, Pius finished second in voting for the Buck Buchanan Award, which honors the FCS’s national defensive player of the year. As a result, Pius was an FCS All-American, and continued that success in 2023 as a pass-rusher.

An outside linebacker standing at 6’2, 240 pounds, Pius adds to the depth at the position for the Badgers, who added Syracuse transfer Leon Lowery earlier last week from the transfer portal as well.

The Badgers didn’t get strong pass-rushing production from the position in 2022, as starters C.J. Goetz and Darryl Peterson combined for just 8.5 sacks on the year, leading Wisconsin to look for additional depth in the portal, especially with Goetz leaving due to eligibility.

Pius is the third transfer that the Badgers have landed in the cycle, joining Lowery and Cincinnati long snapper Cayson Pfeiffer, who committed earlier on Monday.
