Badgers to face Pittsburgh in Ireland to open 2027 season

The Badgers have an international game on their schedule to kick off the 2027 season.

The Wisconsin Badgers are set to face off against the Pittsburgh Panthers in an international contest to open the 2027 season, UW announced on Monday.

The two teams will face off in Ireland during Week 0 in the Aer Lingus College Football Classic at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium on Aug. 28, 2027.

It will be considered a home game for Pitt in the second part of the home-and-home series between the two sides, as Wisconsin will host the Panthers at Camp Randall Stadium in 2026.

Wisconsin has played in a foreign game just once before, defeating Michigan State 41-20 in the Coca-Cola Bowl in Tokyo, Japan in 1993.

Athletic Director Chris McIntosh shared a comment with the announcement, pointing out the unique experience for the school’s student athletes.

“It’s exciting for our student-athletes, their families and our fans who will be able to have such a unique experience,” director of athletics Chris McIntosh said. “We talk all the time about the opportunities available to the student-athletes at Wisconsin and this is another example. Visiting another country and playing a quality opponent will be memorable for all involved and we are looking forward to it!”
