Wisconsin wide receiver Alex Erickson was awarded a scholarship, the Badgers announced via Twitter on Tuesday.

Erickson is a sophomore receiver from Darlington, Wis., who appeared in all 13 games last season and started three. He finished with nine catches for 127 yards, fifth-most in an offense that generally struggled to find production from wide receivers not named Jared Abbrederis.

With tight end Jacob Pedersen also graduated with Abbrederis, the Badgers will be searching for receivers in 2014. Senior Kenzel Doe is one likely starter, and Erickson could be another. Other candidates include junior Jordan Fredrick, sophomores Rob Wheelwright and Reggie Love, and redshirt freshman Jazz Peavy. Wisconsin also has five receivers incoming as freshman in the fall: Chris Jones (Hyattsville, Md.), Krenwick Sanders (Jesup, Ga.), Natrell Jamerson (Ocala, Fla.), Dareian Watkins (Gailon, Ohio) and George Rushing (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

The news of Erickson's scholarship was quickly greeted by congratulations from various teammates.
