Post-Practice Roundup, Aug. 14: More decals earned for Wisconsin freshmen

The Badgers practiced twice Wednesday, and while the morning session was marred by an injury to center Dan Voltz, the evening improved as several young players earned their helmet decals.

We covered the injury situation for redshirt freshman center Dan Voltz this morning. He was out of practice with a hamstring injury that may or may not have been lingering before Wisconsin took the field Wednesday. Either way, it appears the issue is not so severe.

"I don't think it will be too bad," offensive line coach T.J. Woods said after practice. "I think it is a tweak. We'll see.

"He still got to go in and check it out."

As we mentioned earlier, left guard Dallas Lewallen slid over to center with Voltz out. Back-up right guard Zac Matthias took Lewallen's spot, rounding out a line that's certainly not bad, but also rather extremely testing the unit's depth. As Andersen said, we'll know more tomorrow. Till then, it's just hoping for the best.

News, notes and observations

The interesting name there is Senger, aka "Young Russ." He becomes the first quarterback to earn his Motion 'W,' even before Tanner McEvoy. Perhaps Curt Phillips, McEvoy's Big Brother, is being extra stingy considering they're locked in a battle for the starting spot? Probably not, but either way, it doesn't detract from Senger's doing as a walk-on.

Boring!

Now that's a little more interesting. You can never take one single practice too seriously, though it appears if there's a 1A and a 1B, Stave's the former ahead of Phillips.
