Week 15 BCS standings: Wisconsin falls to No. 21

The damage was done Saturday evening once the final whistle blew at Camp Randall Stadium, but now we know its full extent. Wisconsin, after losing a Senior Day stunner to Penn State, fell seven spots to No. 21 in the Week 15 BCS standings released Sunday night.

The result is a far cry from last week's, which saw the Badgers climb to No. 15 after dispatching Minnesota on the road. That standing had Wisconsin on the brink of earning an at-large BCS bid, likely of the Orange Bowl variety -- assuming a win over Penn State would follow. Instead, the Badgers seem relegated to something along the lines of the Capital One Bowl, as SB Nation's Jason Kirk suggests in his latest bowl projections.

The question for Badgers fans -- and thus, the pervading story line moving forward -- is simple, and fairly anticlimactic: Is a 9-3 regular season good enough for the first year under Gary Andersen & co.? This writer says yes, largely because the Rose Bowl was widely considered possible, but more likely out of reach by most rational fans at the beginning of the season. We knew Ohio State would be the cream of the Big Ten crop, and thus, several breaks -- and, you know, some end-of-game refereeing nightmares not happening -- for Wisconsin to return to Pasadena for the fourth straight year.

But after, for a brief week, it seemed like the Badgers had yet another BCS bowl within grasp, this weekend's result is all the more painful.
