Montee Ball Breaks Big Ten Touchdown Record

Wisconsin's senior tailback breaks Ron Dayne’s career Big Ten touchdown record with a huge day against Purdue.

Today's game ball goes to Montee Ball, who set a new Big Ten record with his 72nd career touchdown in Wisconsin's huge 38-14 win over Purdue. His record-breaking score went for three yards, as he powered through two defenders near the goal line to extend the Badgers' lead to 31-7 early in the fourth quarter.

The senior from Wentzville, Mo., broke the record previously held by former Wisconsin Heisman Trophy winner Ron Dayne. Ball also moved into third place on the NCAA's all-time touchdown list.

Ball rushed 29 times for a career-high 247 yards and three touchdowns. His record-tying, 67-yard touchdown scamper to start the scoring in the second half set another record – the longest run of Ball's illustrious career.

The record-setting performance was just part of an unstoppable Wisconsin ground attack that rolled up 467 yards rushing on the day.

After a tumultuous offseason and slow start to his 2012 campaign, Ball has now rushed for 816 yards and 11 touchdowns this year.
