The Badgers were blasted by Ohio State in the Big Ten Championship Game on Saturday in a stunning shutout.

INDIANAPOLIS -- Saturday night was the culmination of the Big Ten season as Wisconsin took on Ohio State at Lucas Oil Stadium. Coming into the game, much was made about Ohio State's quarterback situation after freshman J.T. Barrett fractured his ankle last week. The game featured the nation's second-best defense in Wisconsin and an offense that averaged over 500 yards per game in Ohio State.

None of that mattered. The Buckeyes proved on the field that they were the superior team, demolishing the Badgers 59-0. Wisconsin had not been shut out since its game against Syracuse in 1997. It was the worst loss for the Badgers since 1979, when Ohio State beat them by the same score.

"It's my fault," head coach Gary Andersen said. "That's what I told them. I don't want to see the blame go to any of the players. I don't want to see any of the blame go to the coaches. Put this one on me."

"It's embarrassing," junior Tyler Marz said.

Ohio State had no problem getting its offense going in the first quarter despite being without J.T. Barrett. The Buckeyes wasted no time scoring in the game, with a touchdown pass from Jones to wide receiver Devin Smith to put the Buckeyes up 7-0. Ohio State again scored when Ezekiel Elliot scampered through a large hole and scored on an 81-yard touchdown. The Buckeyes gained 224 yards in the first quarter alone on their way to a 14-0 lead.

wisconsin ohio state 2014 game notes

The Buckeyes stayed hot in the second quarter, as they started the quarter in the red zone and finished a 53-yard drive with a field goal. Wisconsin went three-and-out for the second time of the game and Ohio State answered with another Jones-to-Smith touchdown for 44 yards. The Buckeyes weren't done there. By the time halftime came around, they led 35-0.

"We didn't expect to get to this game and play like we did," sophomore Sojourn Shelton said. "[This] is a really bad feeling. That's all I can say."

"This is not Wisconsin football," Melvin Gordon added. "This is not how we play."

Ohio State finished the game with 558 total yards of offense, including 301 on the ground. The Buckeyes forced four turnovers and held the Badgers to 258 total yards of offense, while only gaining 71 yards rushing.

"Our offense as a whole just couldn't get things going," Gordon said. "They played harder than we did today."

Wisconsin went three-and-out seven times, and had major holes on defense. Cardale Jones and company were able to shred the defense apart any way they wanted to, whether it was through the air or on the ground. The only bright spot of the day for the Badgers was a blocked field goal by Jake Keefer. The game was already 45-0 at that point.

"We just couldn't get in a rhythm," Marz said.

The Buckeyes would tack on two more touchdowns by the end of the game. The players Wisconsin needed to step up were not able to do so. Melvin Gordon gained 76 yards rushing and averaged 2.9 yards per carry. Joel Stave threw three interceptions and was 17-of-43 passing the ball. The offensive line never opened holes for the run game and allowed Stave to be sacked three times.

"We couldn't make any explosive plays," Gordon sid. "Up front, they really got after us."

The Badgers will find out their bowl destination on Sunday when the matchups are announced. For now, the players will have to let this loss linger until they get back on the field.

"I know I'm going to let it burn for a little bit," Shelton said. "I know I've never experienced anything like that."

"I've never been through a loss like this as a football coach," Andersen said.

What was the oddest question former Badgers receiver Jared Abbrederis had to answer during the NFL Scouting Combine? He gave us the answer, and plenty more.

Another great show in the books! Jared Abbrederis talked with us about his preparation for the NFL, and CheeseheadTV's Brian Carriveau broke down the winners and losers from the 2014 NFL Scouting Combine:

At the top of the show, we talked Wisconsin basketball and the Badgers' big comeback victory against Indiana. Can UW run the table the rest of the season, and where will it play in the tournament?

At the 10-minute mark, Abbrederis joined us for a great chat breaking down his long weekend in Indianapolis. He discussed the following:

His daily routine during the four-day extravaganza

Whether the mental or physical drills were more difficult

What was the oddest question he had to answer?

Where did he train after the Capital One Bowl?

The prospects of him being drafted and playing in the NFL

Who he thinks can contribute to the 2014 Badgers

At the 30-minute mark, Carriveau popped on to talk about his experience being at the Combine from a reporter's point of view. He told us who stood out in both a positive and negative light (the latter may surprise you), which players he had a chance to watch and his thoughts on former Badgers working to get on the field on Sundays in the fall.

On the last day of the Combine, the former Wisconsin safety elected not to participate in drills.

Tuesday was the last day of the NFL Combine, and all through Lucas Oil Stadium, not a Manziel or Clowney was sprinting. This day belonged to the defensive backs.

Michigan State's Darqueze Dennard and Louisville's Calvin Pryor looked to solidify first-round draft status, but according to a Twitter exchange between Fox Sports Wisconsin's Dave Heller and NEPatriotsDraft.com's Mike Loyko, it appears former Wisconsin safety Dezmen Southward did not participate in drills:

@NEPD_Loyko unable to watch at my office, so Dez Southward didn't run (or do any drills)?

NFL doesn't have any of Southward's drill times, so safe to say he did not participate on Tuesday.

It's unknown if Southward is injured, and no public reason for skipping drills has been given. Southward did have a minor wrist procedure in early December prior to the Capital One Bowl against South Carolina, but he also played in both the bowl game and the Senior Bowl in January.

He'll have his chance to impress NFL scouts and general managers next Wednesday at Wisconsin's pro day (B5Q will be there). One former NFL general manager, now a NFL.com senior analyst, thinks very highly of the former Badger:

Borland's numbers were high in the bench press but lower in a couple areas compared to the rest of the linebackers in Indianapolis.

Monday at the 2014 NFL Scouting Combine, the defensive linemen and linebackers took center stage. With the bench pressing completed on Sunday, standouts Jadeveon Clowney, Khalil Mack and Wisconsin's own Chris Borland took to the field at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Here's Borland's full performance, complements of NFL.com:

He started off on the right foot with a strong showing in the bench press, but his 40-yard dash, along with his vertical jump and broad jump, were in the bottom half of the group that tested Monday. But as Ty Dunne from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel said, the numbers are what many expected out of the All-Big Ten and Nagurski-Woodson Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year. Borland himself, per Dunne's article, is confident he can make an impact at the next level:

"I don't know if there are a lot of players that are a better all-around athlete," Borland said. "I don't think I get a lot of credit for it. I'm small and straight-line speed is not my strong suit necessarily. We'll see how that run goes tomorrow. As far as what it takes to play football, I have all that is required."

The former walk-on impressed with in an unofficial 40-yard dash time, while James White showed his skills on the bench press.

On Saturday, offensive linemen and tight ends started showing off their physical mettle in front of NFL personnel (and live cable television on the NFL Network). The offensive skill positions (quarterbacks, running backs, and wide receivers) had their chances to increase their draft stock on Sunday. Two former Badgers, wide receiver Jared Abbrederis and running back James White, were among them.

Jared Abbrederis

Abbrederis, as noted earlier today, was the first wide receiver to run the 40-yard dashes Sunday morning. He ran an unofficial 4.50 in his first attempt, but later improved his standing with a 4.44 run in his second. His official time noted by NFL.com was 4.50.

It's a solid time for the former walk-on from Wautoma, Wis., actually the same time as former Oregon Duck speedster DeAnthony Thomas (I am not kidding you on this). Abbrederis showed his strengths in route running and footwork at the Senior Bowl practices before having to withdraw from the game with a minor hamstring injury, which obviously did not hamper the all-time receptions leader in Wisconsin history today.

In the Gauntlet drill, Abbrederis dropped one of his passes but caught the rest. He did finish in the top third of the wide receivers who participated in the 3-cone drill, along with the 20-yard and 60-yard shuttles.

In the bench press, he only performed four reps at 225 pounds on Saturday, which is the lowest among wide receivers at the Combine. NFL.com's scouting report stated he needs to bulk up and become stronger, and Bob McGinn wrote on JSOnline.com his concussion history may leave some teams weary. Per McGinn, the Burlsworth Trophy winner has added 10 pounds onto his frame, from 185 to 195, which could help alleviate some teams' concerns about being able to withstand punishing defenses in the NFL.

He did not place as well compared to the rest of the field in the broad jump and vertical jump categories (the latter being a little surprising, considering how many contested receptions he caught in his Badgers career).

Also noted for you hybrid Badgers/Green Bay Packers fans, Drafttek.com has general manager Ted Thompson and company taking Abbrederis with the 85th overall pick in the third round.

James White

White, another prospect who impressed in Mobile for the Senior Bowl back in January, started off his Combine weekend with 23 reps at 225 pounds on the bench press on Saturday (yes, that is higher than Jadeveon Clowney's total, for what it's worth).

White's time in the 40 placed him in the top half of the running backs seen on Sunday, and his performance on the bench showed the power the 5'9" 204 pound holds, though NFL.com lists his small arms and lack of bulk/run strength, as well as his overall lack of size, as detractors for the underrated running back. Then again, White has always had his fair share of naysayers, but he carved out a fantastic four-year career in Wisconsin. He can definitely help a team on Sundays this fall.

Also impressive for White were his times in the 20- and 60-yard shuttle runs, coming in the top ten for each drill. Overall, with this performance and winning the MOP award for the North in the Senior Bowl, White has helped himself. I'm intrigued how both Abbrederis and White will follow up their performances at Wisconsin's pro day coming up next Wedneday, March 5th.

Monday brings linebacker Chris Borland's turn in front of personnel, but he already received one of the top performers' accolades on NFL.com by benching 225 pounds 27 times, fifth-most out of the linebackers who performed the drill.

The two former Badgers standouts ran the gauntlet of tests, with the former Wisconsin guard gaining some praise from one writer in Indianapolis. Plus, Jared Abbrederis runs an impressive 40-yard dash, albeit unofficial

The whirlwind spectacle of physical trials for NFL prospects known as the NFL Combine began officially with the offensive linemen and tight ends on Saturday (at least the NFL Network coverage). With Sunday comes the offensive skill positions, and former Wisconsin Badgers wide receiver Jared Abbrederis posting an impressive (yet unofficial) time in the 40-yard dash.

Jared Abbrederis

Abbrederis, the first wide receiver to run the 40-yard dashes Sunday morning, ran an unofficial 4.50 in his first attempt, but later improved his standing with a 4.44 run in his second. That time will only help him (nine wide outs ran under a 4.4 as of 11:20 am Sunday morning), as his route running among other skills have been well documented, including his performance at the Senior Bowl practices before having to withdraw from the game with a minor hamstring injury, which obviously did not hamper the all-time receptions leader in Wisconsin history.

In the Gauntlet drill, Abbrederis did drop one of his passes but caught the rest. In the bench press, he only performed 4 reps at 225 pounds on Saturday, which at the moment is the lowest amongst wide receivers at the Combine. NFL.com's scouting report stated he needs to bulk up and become stronger, and Bob McGinn wrote on JSOnline.com his concussion history may leave some teams weary. However, he has added 10 pounds onto his frame, from 185 to 195, which per McGinn, could help alleviate some teams' concerns about being able to withstand punishing defenses in the NFL.

More on Abbrederis' times in other skill drills coming up later today or tomorrow.

Ryan Groy

According to Tony Pauline, Groy impressed and helped his drafted stock with his performance Saturday (h/t to Fox Sports Wisconsin's Dave Heller). Groy ran a 5.10 40-yard dash with a 1.75 10-yard split (the latter a little more important for linemen rather than the 40), and per Pauline;

His 40 time of 5.10 seconds including a 10-yard split of 1.75 seconds was not the fastest time of the day, but a result much better than expected from Groy. During drills Groy was smooth and showed little in the way of stiffness. All in all, it was a big win for the Badger guard.

At 6'3" and a shade under 240 pounds entering this weekend's Combine, look for him in an H-back type tight end setting, as noted by NFL.com.
