Bucky's 5th Quarter - Watch This Watchlist: Wisconsin Badgers nominated for preseason awardsWelcome to the unofficial online tavern of the Wisconsin Badgers.

Week 2 (right?) of watch list season is here, and it brings us another Badgers inclusion. This here is the award for the nation's top wide receiver, and Abbrederis is a natural to make that watchlist. I saw some OSU bros talking on Twitter this morning about Abby's seemingly neverending career at Wisconsin, and kind of chuckled. Yes, he's killed OSU and very well could do it again this year. But on the other hand, hasn't he generally been under-utilized considering Wisconsin's lack of consistent passing options not named Russell Wilson? If (BIG IF) the Badgers can settle the McEvoy-Stave-Phillips battle with a concrete, productive solution, I'd push Abbrederis as a darkhorse candidate. Too ballsy? Perhaps, but I'd like to hear arguments to the contrary.

In the battle of trophies both given to the nation's top defensive player, Chris Borland gets equal recognition. The other, of course, is the Bednarik Award. This is the third time Borland's made the Nagurski watch list, which is pretty cool. He'll probably win it now.

More watchlisting on Thursday: Wisconsin's jack of all trades along the offensive line was among the nominees for the nation's best interior lineman. Two other Badgers have won this award: Gabe Carimi in 2010 and Joe Thomas in 2006. Groy's also the sixth different Badger to make the watchlist in the last four years. Can you name them? Shouldn't be too hard. Oh, and RYAN GROY WILL WIN THE OUTLAND.

Watchlist watchlist blah blah blah. Same old story as yesterday. But in our lifelong quest to bring you all the Badgers news, here a few fun tidbits on Pedersen making the watch list for the nation's top tight end: It's his second consecutive season on the watchlist (he was a semifinalist for the actual award in 2011), he's the sixth UW tight end in seven years to make the list and he's one of seven Big Ten tight ends to make this year's list. So in the vein of yesterday's watchlist analysis, we'll end this by saying JACOB PEDERSEN WILL WIN THE MACKEY.

CLICK TO EMBIGGEN. Chris Borland is a stud -- we know that. Yes, that is a link to the Borland leapslam. You should click it. We also know that he's most likely Wisconsin's most important defensive player. That's a weighty combo, and it's one that's landed the Badgers' senior linebacker on the Bednarik Award watchlist. The cutesy headline pun references the inherent silliness of these watchlists -- I think most of get that "watchlist listee" isn't an honor as much as it as an effort to get people talking about the award (this one's for college football's top defensive player) and fueling the good ol' hype matchine. Nothing wrong with that, of course -- let's just take these lists for what they are, insist CHRIS BORLAND WILL WIN THE BEDNARIK and move on.
