The first scholarship offer Greg Gard extended as Wisconsin interim head coach went to Tyler Herro, one of the cornerstone's of a strong in-state class of 2018. Wisconsin's offer came after prior offers from Creighton, DePaul, Milwaukee and Green Bay. He has attended Marquette Madness in the past, and fielded early interest from the Golden Eagles as well as Minnesota, Purdue, Stanford and West Virginia. Herro's recruitment began to heat up in the spring after Whitnall's state tournament appearance, garnering offers from Boston College, Nebraska, Minnesota, Purdue, Xavier, Auburn, Florida and Indiana in quick succession. The Pac-12 started coming after Herro after a brief, but impressive showing at the Adidas Uprising tournament in July, including a long-awaited offer from supposed "dream school" Arizona.
After another visit to Marquette, Herro attended Wisconsin football games on back-to-back weekends in the fall, including the Badgers' win over LSU at Lambeau Field. Despite starting to hear from North Carolina as well, Herro made it official by selecting Wisconsin on a Tuesday, explaining that he has his sights set on winning lots of rings with the impressive Badger recruits in the class of 2017 ahead of him.
Herro recently took part in the USA Basketball Junior National Team mini-camp in Colorado and impressed just about everyone scouting the event. Soon after, he shocked Wisconsin fans by announcing that he was reopening his recruitiment. With a blue blood in mind, he courted offers form the likes of Oregon, Butler, UNLV, Kansas, and once he got one from Kentucky on his official visit, he jumped on it.
