Even though he’s approaching the magical 7-foot mark, Crowl moves well and his strong suit is his shooting touch. His coach at Eastview praises his footwork too. Wisconsin seemed like a great fit from the jump, given its track record with guys like Jon Leuer, Jared Berggren, Frank Kaminsky, Ethan Happ and now Nate Reuvers. Crowl had plenty of eyes on him on the travel circuit after switching to the loaded D1 Minnesota squad, where one can easily become overshadowed. He scored with consistency for Eastview each of the last two seasons, finishing as the school’s all-time leading scorer (1,747 points) and rebounder (832).

Crowl excelled at Wisconsin Team Camp in June 2019, leading to speculation about a forthcoming offer. The offer came in July, as the Badgers looked to solidify their future front court. At the time, Crowl’s best offers were from Iowa, Northern Iowa and Colorado. Interest came from other programs in the Big Ten, as well as Oklahoma, Pittsburgh and Texas.

Crowl enjoyed a sensational senior season in which he out-dueled Dawson Garcia in a win over Prior Lake, and later wound up a finalist for Minnesota Mr. Basketball.
