Verbal commitment Verbally committed to UW-Milwaukee

When Patrick Baldwin became a Division I head basketball coach at UW-Milwaukee, he may have harbored dreams of coaching his son, Patrick Baldwin Jr., someday. Imagine the rollercoaster of emotions seeing your son rise to become one of (if not the) top NBA prospect in the 2021 class, realizing he can pick any school he wants or go pro), and then feeling the elation from your son’s decision to compete in the Horizon League with you.

Baldwin Jr. was the highly-touted new kid on the Wisconsin prep hoop scene coming up from the Chicago area when his dad took a new job and it was only a matter of time before he ascended to the consensus No. 1 player in the 2021 class nationally. His sweet stroke makes him a nightmare to cover at his height (6’9”).

Since his standout freshman season, Baldwin has made an impression among the nation’s best, attending the Nike Elite 100 and NBPA Top 100 Camp in June 2018. Wisconsin threw its hat in the ring relatively late, becoming the 12th school to offer Baldwin a scholarship later in August, following the likes of Duke, UCLA, USC, Florida, Kansas State and Marquette. The Badgers survived the cut to Baldwin’s Top 10 in May 2020, but appeared to be all but eliminated based on comments made to 247 Sports. Duke, UW-Milwaukee and Northwestern (his father’s alma mater) all traded stints as the trendy picks along the way, with even North Carolina and Kentucky on the outside looking in. Hopefully Baldwin selecting to lead the Panthers for one year in stead of Duke or Georgetown will bring some benefits to the state basketball scene as a whole.
