Verbally committed to Stanford
Braving the record low temperatures in January, Sharma made a surprise official visit for the Iowa game and came away with a Wisconsin scholarship offer. It was his second Big Ten offer in as many weeks, following Illinois the week prior. Sharma's prep school coach had the highest praise for UW regarding the visit:
"Wisconsin hit a home run on the visit," Northfield Mount Hermon coach John Carroll said. "Everything hit for him. It was the right kind of kids as far as teammates. The faculty he met on campus was great."
Badger assistant coach Gary Close was the lead recruiter for Sharma, an excellent athlete with a primitive offensive repertoire. Originally from Hawaii, Sharma is likely used to cold weather while prepping near the Vermont-New Hampshire-Massachusetts border. Sharma is well-equipped academically, as evidenced by an ACT score of 31 and interest from UW, Notre Dame and Vanderbilt. Purdue, Stanford and Virginia each made a charge as well.
Sharma received his first major offers from UMass and Providence prior to his sophomore season. He added offers from Kansas State, Boston College, Oklahoma State, Maryland during over the next year, even though he came off the bench for a talented championship-winning NMH squad. Sharma also participated in the Adidas Nations camp in the summer of 2013, which allowed others to catch his rare blend of height and fluid athleticism. He began receiving interest from Indiana, Illinois and Gonzaga most recently, to go along with looks from Syracuse, Duke and Connecticut. After visiting Boston College and UConn in June, Sharma indicated he may wait until October to make a decision. He wanted to visit Illinois and Wisconsin again, and take his remaining four official visits (UW already received one) in the fall. And wait he did. However, Stanford had Sharma's eye (his parents recently moved back to Hawaii), and proved to be too tough to beat when the Cardinal offer finally came. Sharma committed just days after his official visit the weekend of October 18. Hard to fault a kid for going to Palo Alto.
