Hodges plays AAU ball on the Under Armour circuit for a traditionally Wisconsin-friendly program in the Illinois Wolves, playing up a level after his sophomore season. He went for a career-high 38 points on 15-of-16 shooting during a high school game in December 2018, and helped Schaumburg to a regional championship as a sophomore alongside older brother Michael. Chris Hodges’ surprise Wisconsin offer came during UW’s advanced camp in June, adding to offers from DePaul, Miami (OH) and Loyola (Chicago). Purdue and home-state Illinois showed early Big Ten interest, followed by Iowa, Michigan State and an offer from Rutgers. Hodges visited Madison again on Aug. 5 and soon after, shut down his recruitment early in favor of the Badgers. He later took his official visit for a big football win over Michigan along with several other Badger commits.
At this point Hodges lives in the paint offensively, although he runs the floor well. He can muscle to the basket with his frame and finish through contact thanks to his impressive physicality — which is even more astounding considering his dad and mom stand 5-foot-10 and 5-foot-5 respectively. The rising junior has reportedly put on 15 pounds of muscle over the summer. Hodges is currently ranked as the No. 7 prospect in Illinois’ Class of 2021 by Joe Henricksen of the City/Suburban Hoops Report.
