Verbally committed to Kentucky

You know a kid is special when his first scholarship offer comes from Arizona, and then has a Illinois and DePaul offers in hand as a freshman. Wisconsin entered the circus in mid-April of his sophomore year, as did Marquette. On top of all that, as soon as Bill Self hired Chicago super-recruiter Jerrance Howard to Kansas, the Jayhawks threw their hat in the scholarship ring for Matthews; and you can add Kentucky and Missouri to the mix now as well.

Matthews eschewed enrolling in prep powerhouse Whitney Young, opting to play along side his older brother for a few years at St. Rita -- a Chicago high school that has produced several quality Badger football players over the years. Because of his size and combo guard skills, Matthews has been dubbed "Little Penny" in some circles.
