Verbally committed to Kansas
At the conclusion of his sophomore season, The Plain Dealer named Carlton Bragg the "most likely to play in the NBA" from current Cleveland-area prep athletes. Bragg truly exploded on the AAU circuit with OBC in July before his junior year, starting with the Adidas Invitational. Along with Ohio State and Michigan State, Illinois also made Bragg a priority. Coach Jim Groce and the Illini kept close as Bragg added Kentucky and Kansas to his list of favorites. Though he said "I love Adidas" Wisconsin was not a real player in Bragg's recruitment . Ohio State did not even survive Bragg's cut down to five final schools.
With his list pared down to Kansas, Kentucky and Illinois, Bragg's nerves got the best of him when he (sort of) announced his intention to go to Lawrence and become a Jayhawk.
