Quickly moving up the charts in a stellar class of 2017 in Minnesota, Davison saw his recruitment go national in mid-May thanks to great performances at Nike's EYBL after fellow Pulley point guard Tre Jones got injured. Davison went off for 37 in a one-point win, then locked down premier guard Markell Johnson from Cleveland. Wisconsin got serious with an offer shortly thereafter, joining Dayton, Georgia Tech, Nebraska, North Carolina State, and Northern Iowa as Davison's top offers to date. The Badgers have been keeping an eye on Davison for awhile, since before Greg Gard filled the head coaching position. That worked well for UW's chances even after schools like Duke and California started inquiring about him. Trips to Stanford and Michigan netted Davison two new big offers.

Davison's two sisters played together on the Northern Iowa women's basketball team last year. He took an unofficial visit to Wisconsin to watch the Badger football team beat Purdue in October 2015 and returned to Madison on June 29. It was Davison's last stop in a nationwide campus tour (including an official to Stanford), which turned out to be a good omen for Wisconsin. He continued to tear up the AAU circuit at the Peach Jam in July, prompting Minnesota's belated offer. So sad Gopher fans, he was meant to be a Badger.
