Pushing 6’6” with a smooth stroke, swingman Asa Thomas will be a highly-sought after commodity this summer on the recruiting trail. Greg Gard and Sharif Chambliss struck on June 28th, extending an offer to the Lake Forest, Ill. product during an unofficial visit to Wisconsin ($) in which he praised UW’s “family atmosphere.” It’s a telling quote, given the turmoil in the program at the time. Thomas plans to return for another unofficial on Oct. 2 ($), this time for a football contest versus Michigan.
Thomas flashed onto high major radars after his recent 37-point outing in the renowned Riverside-Brookfield Summer Shootout, giving some scouts visions of Kyle Korver. His first offer came courtesy of Marquette, but Illinois, Northwestern, Oklahoma, and Virginia Tech soon followed. The Badgers will be in this until the end if they want, despite mounting interest from Florida, Iowa State, Notre Dame, Purdue and Stanford, thanks to Thomas’s roots in the Illinois Wolves AAU program.
After a great visit, I am blessed to have received an offer from the University Of Wisconsin! Huge thanks to coach Gard, Coach Chambliss and the rest of the staff! #gobadgers pic.twitter.com/CROvcTqQKv
