After four seasons with the Wisconsin Badgers, outside linebacker Kaden Johnson has officially entered his name into the transfer portal.
I would like to thank everyone who has been on this journey with me and couldn’t be more thankful for the relationships I built in Madison❤️ with that being said I’m officially in the transfer portal, looking for a new home! pic.twitter.com/7yB7npP4cZ— Kaden Johnson (@KadenJohnson9) January 5, 2024
This news comes as no surprise, considering the junior pass-rusher fell out of favor this past season under the new coaching staff.
With the offseason transfer portal additions of John Pius and Leon Lowery on the edge, paired with the return of Darryl Peterson and Jeff Pietrowski, it became clear there wasn’t going to be a clear path to more playing time next season.
Additionally, the Wisconsin Badgers landed two four-star outside linebackers in the 2024 recruiting class, Thomas Heiberger and Anelu Lafaele, whom they’re very excited about.
The 6-foot-2, 248-pound OLB appeared in 35 games during his career with the Badgers, played 241 snaps, and registered 28 tackles, nine pressures, one sack, and a forced fumble.
Pro Football Focus gave Johnson a 65.1 grade as a reserve in 2023, which is considered slightly above average by their grading metric.
Johnson was a former four-star recruit hailing from Minneapolis, Minnesota, in Wisconsin’s 2020 cycle, which also featured Nick Herbig.
He’ll have one year of eligibility remaining.
