In what seems like a bit of a surprise, USC Trojans linebacker Tackett Curtis entered the transfer portal after one season on Tuesday, according to OC Register’s Luca Evans.
News: USC freshman linebacker Tackett Curtis has entered the transfer portal, according to source with knowledge of the situation. Program was high on him and his potential, but appears Curtis won’t be in ILB plans next year. https://t.co/lUODflN0iI— Luca Evans (@bylucaevans) December 18, 2023
Wisconsin Badgers may remember the name, as Wisconsin was significantly in the running for Curtis coming out of high school last season prior to the coaching changes, although they fell short to USC in his recruitment.
One year later, the Badgers may get their chance to develop the talented freshman linebacker, as a source has confirmed that Wisconsin has already reached out to Curtis and are looking to potentially go after the talented linebacker in the transfer portal.
Now, Curtis was heavily recruited by former outside linebackers coach Bobby April, but the tie to Madison is there from his last recruitment, and it appears that the coaching staff will be looking to gauge the interest there.
As a true freshman, Curtis had 40 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, and two sacks, while burning his redshirt year.
The Badgers have been linked to other inside linebackers in the portal, such as Northern Iowa’s Jahsiah Galvin, who had a good visit this past weekend, and could look to add to their depth with Curtis, especially after losing Jordan Turner to the transfer portal.
