After consecutive victories in the Fort Myers Classic Tipoff last week, the Badgers continued their success at home, defeating the Western Illinois Leathernecks 71-49 to improve to 5-2 on the season.
In the game, the Badgers had one of their most efficient performances on offense, while holding the Leathernecks to under 40 percent shooting defensively.
The Badgers had four players in double figures as Steven Crowl, Tyler Wahl, Chucky Hepburn, and A.J. Storr combined for 51 points on 19/29 in the winning effort.
Storr was the early riser, scoring nine early points, which set the tone for the Badgers in their quick start.
Crowl had a double-double for the second time in three games, scoring 13 points, while recording 11 rebounds, including five on the offensive end.
Wahl was extremely efficient near the rim, shooting 4/5 from the field, while getting to the free throw line five times in another strong effort.
Hepburn was the difference-maker in the second half, scoring 11 unanswered points to allow the Badgers to pull away and ultimately win in comfortable fashion.
Speaking to reporters after the game, head coach Greg Gard pointed out the slow start to the second half, but praised the team’s effort and the strong analytics that came with the victory.
